Fall Colors Ride X

October 21, 2006

On October 21, 2006 we had a Fall Colors Ride X on the path along the D&R canal next to the Delaware River. We went from Washington Crossing to Lambertville to Frenchtown and back. We had lunch in Lambertville. The total was 45 miles.

We had a moderate sized group this year: Norm Jarosik, a researcher in the physics department, Chris Tully, on the faculty, Mike Niemack and Glen Nixon, graduate students, and me, Ed Groth.

It was a bit chilly and sometimes windy, but otherwise a nice day.

The rest of the story is in the pictures below.

Fall Colors Ride, 2006 Close to the coffee shop is a bike shop. As it turns out, Glen was having problems with his bike. They started soon after he joined us in Lambertville. After some diagnosis, we concluded his bottom bracket was going. The bottom bracket is the axle to which the pedal cranks are attached. He decided to head back to his car while he could still pedal. But a few miles later, he was with us again. He said it seemed to have gotten better, so he was going to keep on going. When we got to Frenchtown, he took it to the bike shop. He didn't have a replacement bearing but was able to clean and lubricate the axle and Glen was able to get all the way back to Lambertville with no further bike problems.

The rest of us still had seven miles to go back to Washington Crossing.
