It's Almost Summer Bike Ride

June 6, 1998

On June 6, 1998 we had an It's Almost Summer Bike Ride on the path along the D&R canal next to the Delaware River. We went from Scudders Falls to Lambertville to Frenchtown, then back to Lambertville where we locked our bikes and went across the river to New Hope for lunch. We returned to Scudders Falls after lunch. The total was 51 miles! Susan and Rob Dawson couldn't spend the whole day, so they left us at Bull Island. Others participating were Tina Pavlin '97, grad students Morten Krogh and Don Priour, post doc Eric Torbet, and professor Eric Prebys. Jane joined us for lunch.

At the start Here we are at the start which is off route 29 just north of I95 at Scudders Falls where it crosses the Delaware. From left to right are Eric Prebys, Eric Torbet, Morten Krogh, Tina Pavlin, Susan Dawson, Don Priour, and Rob Dawson. Riding Here we are riding. Don Priour is on the left. I believe Morten Krogh is just ahead of him. Nearest the camera is Eric Prebys. The person on the right is a jogger or walker. The canal is in the deep shade on the right. This is a few miles north of the starting point.
Rest Stop Here we are at Bull Island, about 16 miles into the ride. Standing is Susan Dawson. From front to back on the left are Don Priour and Eric Torbet. and on the right are Tina Pavlin, Morten Krogh and Rob Dawson. I'm not sure where Eric Prebys was during this picture, but he was still with us on the ride! View South From the Bull Island - Lumberville Bridge, this is the view South along the Delaware.
View North From the Bull Island - Lumberville Bridge, this is the view North along the Delaware. Bull Island - Lumberville Bridge This is on the Bull Island - Lumberville Bridge looking towards Bull Island. From left to right are Eric Torbet, Tina Pavlin, Morten Krogh, and Don Priour.
Riding This is perhaps 5 miles north of Bull Island, about twenty miles into the ride. North of Bull Island, there was never a canal nor a towpath. Instead the bike path follows the old railroad right of way that goes on to Frenchtown and points north (the bike path stops at Frenchtown). From left to right are Don Priour, Tina Pavlin, Morten Krogh, and Eric Torbet.
