It's Almost Summer Bike Ride II

On June 5, 1999 we had an It's Almost Summer Bike Ride II on the path along the D&R canal from Rocky Hill to New Brunswick and back. Two and a half miles from Rocky Hill, we stopped at the Dawson's where Susan hosted a cookout for us. Her great food was the perfect ending to a great ride!

Participants included Jeff Chou (who had to leave early and missed the feast), Rob Dawson, Ed Groth (that's me), Michele Limon, Sue Oberlander and her fiance Ken (they got separated from the main group and never did find the food), Jim Peebles, Steven Phelps, Don Priour, Lisa Randall (who got a late start but caught us at the New Brunswick end of the canal), Petra Seljak, Uros Seljak, and Jonas Tegenfeldt,


START At the start in the big parking lot at Route 518 and Canal Road in Rocky Hill. That's Jim Peebles, Don Priour, Jonas Tegenfeldt, and Rob Dawson. ALONG THE TRAIL 1 Along the trail. nearest the camera are Steven Phelps and Jim Peebles. Just behind is Petra Seljak. The next pair is Uros Seljak and Michele Limon. In the rear are Jeff Chou and Jonas Tegenfeldt.
ALONG THE TRAIL 2 That's Don Priour and Rob Dawson on the trail about 5.5 miles from the start. 5 MILE LOCK We took a break at "5 Mile Lock," which I think means that there are five miles to go to the end of the original canal. (A little shorter to the end of the current canal.) That's Jeff Chou, Jonas Tegenfeldt, Steven Phelps, Don Priour behind Michele Limon, Jim Peebles, Uros Seljak, Rob Dawson, and Petra Seljak.
PETRA We got to the end where Petra wandered off. Here she is wandering back! WHERE ARE WE? Here are some of us at the end trying to figure out exactly where it is.
JIM AND JONAS Jim Peebles and Jonas Tegenfeldt make it to the end. This is twenty miles from where we started. SIGN Still at the end, the main highway is route 18. The sign announces an exit for route 27, Georges Street, Rutgers University and New Brunswick.
THE GROUP AT THE END The whole group at the end. Lisa Randall caught up with us! She's in the black shorts and blue top. From here we go back 17.5 miles to the Dawson's and then 2.5 miles to the parking lots. BIKE PARKING Bike parking lot at the Dawson's.
