Fall Colors Ride II

October 11, 1998

On October 11, 1998 we had a Fall Colors Ride II on the path along the D&R canal next to the Delaware River. We went from Scudders Falls to Lambertville to Frenchtown, then back to Lambertville where we locked our bikes and went across the river to New Hope for lunch. We returned to Scudders Falls after lunch. The total was 51 miles! Participants included Glenn and Denise Atkinson, Francesco Darro, Robin Dawson, Michelle Limon, Akakii Melikidze, Lesik Motrunich, Ilya Nemenman, Don Priour, Saro Scalia, Nadia, and me, Ed Groth. Susan Dawson met us for lunch.

Start Getting ready at the start. This is at the parking lot where route 29 and I-95 intersect. Still at the start We're still getting ready at the start.
Don on the trail This is Don on the trail between Washington's Crossing and Lambertville. Riders approaching A group of riders approaches.
Closer They've gotten closer. From left to right: Rob, Denise, Glenn, Ilya, Francesco, Saro, Michelle. The riders are headed north, so the canal is to the left and the river is to the right in this picture. (You can't see either one.) At the rear Rob, Denise, and Glenn bringing up the rear.
On the bridge I Francesco, Saro, Denise (just barely), and Glenn on the pedestrian bridge between Bull Island, NJ and Lumberville, PA. On the bridge II Lesik, Akakii, and Ilya on the bridge. Nadia is just behind Akakii. In the background is the Lumberville Inn. The Delaware River is just barely visible between Lesik and Akakii.
On the bridge III Akakii with me on the bridge. Nadia is just behind. At lunch I We had lunch at the River's Edge in New Hope, PA. Here are Denise, Don, Saro, Francesco, Ilya, Akakii (farther from the camera), Nadia, and Lesik. I think those are pitchers of River Horse Ale brewed just across the river in Lambertville.
At lunch II Another shot of lunch: here are Akakii, Ilya, Nadia (invisible), Lesik, me, Rob, Susan, Michelle (barely), Glenn, Denise, Don, and Saro. At lunch III Still drinking that ale! Glenn, Denise, and Don. Actually, Don is working on a diet coke!
End Back at the parking lot after 51 miles! We are pretty much on schedule although lunch took a little longer than we expected. Don had a flat just after lunch, but we got it fixed in about 10 minutes, so there we no major problems! Grad students Nadia, Akakii, Lesik, Ilya, and Don resting at the end. Don is tired and Akakii is really tired. Everyone else is doing fine! Nadia is a grad student in geosciences, all the others are grad students in physics. The fence in the upper left runs along the trail. Not visible, but parallel to and left of the trail are the canal and route 29. The bridge in the background is one of the ramps connecting route 29 and I-95.
