Here I am at getting ready to leave the house. It's only about a
mile to Rider University, so I just ride to the start. This is
about 6:50 am!
I'm still getting ready to leave - in this picture you can see my
bike.
The registration tables at Rider University. One had a choice of
Rolling 16, 25, and 35, hilly 50 and 62, or flat 50, 65, and 100
mile routes. I picked the 100 mile ride - called the Manasquan
Reservoir Century.

Knapp's Cyclery setting up at the beginning of the day. Pete has
his arm in the pickup truck. Stephanie is way in the back and her
dad is in front of the camper.
On the road. About 10-15 miles from the start. The shadows tell
us we're heading south.
The ride went through some pretty rural country. Here's a random
farm not too far from the location of the previous picture.
Another shot along the road. I think this may be roughly 25 miles
into the ride and we're headed southwest.
The rest stop at the New Egypt High School. There were lots of
goodies at the rest stops. Roughly 33 miles into the ride.
Another shot of the rest stop.
Crossing the Manasquan Reservoir. The riders coming the other
direction have already been to the second rest stop which was at
the far end of this reservoir crossing.
The rest stop at the Manasquan Reservoir. About 57 miles into the
ride.
Riders approaching the Manasquan Reservoir rest stop.
The Manasquan Reservoir rest stop is actually called Chestnut
Point.
Map of the 100 mile route posted at the rest stop. The Delaware
River is on the left side and the Atlantic Ocean on the right
side. The heavy line across the middle is I195. The ride starts
in the upper left at Rider and goes around the big loop
counterclockwise. The New Egypt rest stop is at the left end of
the triangle at the bottom. The Manasquan Reservoir rest stop is
near the right end of the big loop and is marked by the arrow.
The third rest stop is along the top part of the loop and is
marked by a little cross at the end of a westbound leg. From the
start to the Manasquan Reservoir was pretty flat, as advertised.
But the top of the loop was hilly!
The First Presbyterian Church (in Perrineville) was the third rest
stop, about 76 miles from the start. It's on a hill!
Resting at the third rest stop. The people standing are wearing
the ride T-shirt. The arrow is the Princeton Freewheeler logo and
is used to mark the routes. If you want to follow the 100 mile
route, go to Rider, find the white arrow on the road, and
follow the white arrows until you get back to Rider! There were 7
other colors of arrows on the road at Rider.
Another view of the third rest area. I think this area was used
by the 50 and 65 mile routes as well as the 100 mile route, but
the first two were only on the 100 mile route.
You can really get into rural areas in NJ. I took this picture
because the only sign of humans I could see was the road. No
farms, no utility poles, nothing but the road. Very peaceful.
Now I'm back at Rider after 100 miles. These are some of the
people in the sponsor's area. The fellow in the center of the
picture may be the one who was wearing some kind of heart rate
monitor which also estimated his calorie consumption. He (if this
is the right person) had done the 100 mile ride, and the estimate
was 4700 calories. I was figuring on about 4000.
Knapp's is still set up at about 3:15.
Food! The 6' long hoagies that were served to returning riders.
Well, you only get about 6 inches worth!
Just in case you forgot.
