Ride of Silence
May 17, 2006
On May 17, 2006, I participated in the "Ride of Silence" in memory of cyclists
killed on the road.
Actually, there were many "Rides of Silence," as they were organized throughout the US (and the world?)
to start at the same local time, 7 pm on May 17. I believe this might be the second year for the Rides of Silence.
Some of the participants seemed quite moved by the ride. Perhaps because I don't actually know anybody that's been
killed riding a bike, I found it to be a strange ride.
The rest of the story is in the pictures below.

The ride started from the parking lot at the Hopewell Valley Central High School. |

Another view of the parking lot at the start of the ride. Most of the riders were Anchor House Ride alums and seemed to know each other. I didn't know anybody. |

There was a "retro bike." |

The ground rules were: single file, no more than 12 mph, no more than 10 miles, and no talking. Here's the line of riders in front of me. |

The line of riders behind me. The blue and yellow jersey is a recent Anchor House Ride jersey. |

We rode a 1.8 mile loop four times. The first in memory of Cory Golis, killed on an Anchor House ride, the second in memory of Bambi Cross, killed by a drunk driver, and the the third and fourth in memory of all other cyclists killed while riding. |
