January 18, 2010: There was a request to know the grade distribution. Here is the Final vs the Homework (each normalized to 100%).
Looks highly correlated to me. There might be a reason to do the homework!
January 18, 2010: The final (also see solutions) has been graded and final course grades calculated and submitted. You may pick up your exam in person from me. I am usually in my office in the afternoons, although I will be out of town this Wednesday and Thursday. Also, January 24-31 is intersession and I may not be in regularly.
October 28, 2009: Homework 6-12 will be collected, looked over and form 25% of the course grade. Homeworks will be due on Thursdays during class, one week after they are assigned. The exceptions are HW 8, due the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and HW 12, due in my mailbox in the Jadwin Lobby during reading period. Since homework is now included in the course grade, the weights of the midterm and final are reduced to 25% and 50%, respectively.
September 11, 2009: Lectures will be in Jadwin A06, not A10 as stated on the registrar's site.
Course Instructor: Ed Groth, Jadwin 264, x8-4361, groth@princeton.edu.
Office Hours: Most afternoons - give a call before walking across campus! Almost surely Wednesday afternoons, 2:00-4:00 pm.
Course Manager: Laurel Lerner, 210 Jadwin, x8-4403, lerner@princeton.edu.
Lectures: Tuesday and Thursday, 11:00 am - 12:20 pm, Jadwin A06.
Text: I will be drawing material for the lectures from a number of texts including F. Schwabl, Quantum Mechanics, Springer and P. J. E. Peebles, Quantum Mechanics, Princeton University Press. You're encouraged to get a copy of Schwabl as when I run out of time, I will point at the appropriate section of Schwabl for reading.
Homework: Assigned via the course web site (this page!) no later than Thursday. It is not handed in, but should be completed by the next Tuesday when solutions will appear on the course web site. You really must work through the problems before you see the solutions to have any hope of doing well on the exams! Also, you need to keep up, it doesn't work to save up the homework assignments for several weeks! If you don't understand a solution or have a different solution that you want to discuss, come to office hours.
Midterm: October 22 in class, 40% of grade, exam and solutions.
Final: January 13, 1:30-4:30 pm, Jadwin Hall Room 343, 60% of grade, exam and solutions.
The homework assignments and solutions will be available for downloading. They will be pdf documents.
